They had an area that had old tyres in place and wanted ides to cater for the whole school that included problem solving and exercise.

The staff at Huntingdon Primary School in Cambridgeshire contacted us as they had an old trim trail that was tired and no longer fit for purpose. They wanted to replace the trim trail with something more fun and age appropriate.

This amazing playground surfacing project completed at The Mall School in Twickenham showcases how resin bonded gravel can transform dull tarmac spaces.

A new climbing area including a bespoke pirate ship and clamber stack installed in the infant playground. The project also included the EYFS playground where the school now have balance beam on mounds, a tunnel and a bridge for the little explorers.

The new play tower and trim trail in the infant playground at Hampton Infant and Nursery School is a hit with the children.

Brenda the Headteacher responded to our free playground design email as she was looking to develop her main playground. The challenge she presented us with was a sloped area and she wasn’t sure on how to develop this to make the best use of the space.

The school were looking to add an assault course, roundabout, trampoline and a play cabin to the year 7 site. This site was supposed to be temporary which was why this was not developed however, as this became permanent they wanted to provide a much-needed area for physical development for the children.

The Head Teacher Melissa contacted ESP PLAY as they had an overgrown nature area that needed converting for forest school activities. Due to the time of year and commitments at the school a meeting was booked for the New Year where our consultant was able to view the space. Melissa wasn’t joking when she advised it was overgrown, but we were confident we could transform the space.

The climbing equipment in the Early Years area at Clarendon Primary was beyond repair, the school had maintained the equipment for as long as they could but understood it now needed to be removed following the latest inspection report that had condemned it.

Having already worked with the school in creating an outstanding new early years outdoor provision for them, Headteacher Toni got in touch with her focus now on the main playground.

A SOLUTION FIT FOR PURPOSE! Having previously installed at Robert Miles, ESP were invited back to scope works associated with the removal and replacement of artificial grass in their EYFS setting.

Woodlands Academy caters for pupils aged 3 -16yrs with a wide variety of special educational needs, including speech, language and communication needs, moderate to severe learning difficulties and profound and multiple learning needs.

A new single form entry primary school called Whipman Woods Flying High Academy in Worksop is to be sponsored by the Flying High partnership.

Starbank School is a a superb example of playground equipment for schools. The finished result sees a total transformation of the outdoor environment. The installation has been received by all stakeholders and pupils as a resounding success.

This recently completed special educational needs outdoor area at Nethergate Academy has been completely revamped. Fourteen trees were felled, and shrubbery was replanted wherever possible. Fences were taken down and reinstalled to expand the playground area. The flagship tower unit now offers boundless entertainment and play opportunities for the students. Other new play elements include swing sets and in-ground trampolines. The entire area was covered with artificial grass, preserving the asphalt path for foot traffic.

This new climbing frame at Rakegate Primary School is a hit with the children! The equipment the school had was a freestanding balance trail that wasn’t suitable or challenging enough for the children. Adding our Fawcett Playtower to the space has not only made the children happy it also offers the challenge that was missing.

The Site Manager contacted ESP PLAY in 2022 following works we had completed for him at his previous school. The much-loved existing climbing frame required replacement. He was hovering between 2 options, a like for like replacement or something different which worked the same muscle groups. We created 2 options for the school but unfortunately the project was put on hold due to finances.

Having worked with ESP PLAY previously, the chair of governors contacted us to assist with the adventure Playground project. The existing equipment was rotting and the bark surface wasn’t practical due to constant replenishment.

Stuart, a member of the PTA at Cloverlea Primary School in Altrincham, contacted three companies to gather some ideas and costs for a new clamber stack style climbing equipment. The PTA had been working hard to fund raise to remove and replace the old climbing equipment. The new equipment looks amazing and the children love it!

When local school, St John the Baptist RC Primary, wanted to update their playground they got in touch with ESP Play requesting a free consultation. Headteacher, Helen wanted to invest in the KS2 Playground, it had been years since anything was done.

Courtney contacted ESP Play with a request for a free playground design. She wanted to take full advantage of the free service that we offer by booking an appointment with our area sales representative to get some expert advice and ideas on how they could enhance their early years outdoor provision.

A beautifully transformed EYFS area at Perry Wood Primary and Nursery School in Worcester incorporates the 7 areas of learning.

The Headteacher contacted us as the school wanted to provide an open-ended climbing structure, suitable for KS1 & 2 users, complete with all-weather safety surfacing. An important consideration was the play equipment's design aesthetics were sympathetic to the woodland zone and where possible, supported learning in the forest school setting. ESP's clamber stack structures from our tangled range is the obvious choice when enhancing woodland spaces with physical play.

Fun and colourful playground markings have made a great addition to Charles Darwin Community School in Northwich, Cheshire. The school PTA had raised some money and they thought some playground markings would be a great addition to the playground.

Peak School is a community special school in Chinley, North Derbyshire, welcoming pupils who experience a wide range of needs. The school is part of the Esteem Multi-Academy Trust which includes several other special schools, all striving to secure high quality education for their young people by working together, sharing expertise and practice.

The School Business Manager Susan and Headteacher Anne-Marie met our North West representative at The Northern Education Show. They were so impressed by what they heard that they booked a meeting to discuss the Early Years area for the new build school.

Following some advice on funding, the project was subsequently put on hold in July 22 until he got back in touch in July the following year to arrange for a free consultation with our North West representative.

Laureate Primary school are an existing customer of ESP PLAY. We have worked with the school on two projects before, so it was a no brainer when they contacted ESP for a site visit to look at their EYFS area.

We were contacted by the Nursery owner in Early January as she was interested in our Wild Wood range.

Girton Day Nursery are a small nursery based in Cambridgeshire. They invited ESP PLAY to their site to measure the area and design an active and engaging playground to cater for all ages within their nursery.

Brightstars Day Nursery who are based in Bedfordshire contacted ESP PLAY to help them with the design of a new outdoor play area. The nursery were restricted to a very small garden area and a tight budget so our years of playground expertise were required.

The school contacted ESP PLAY for a new playground markings design that targeted high physical activity levels and improve behaviour at lunchtimes.

Trim trails are an area ESP PLAY really specialise. Working to a specific budget, we were able to remove the existing trail, provide a 12 piece trim trail and add a new safety surface under the equipment making the area useable all year round.

The project was conceived through formal discussions with the trust board. From this, Bilsthorpe was identified as priority works forming part of a three-year development plan set out by the trusts asset team.

The client was keen extend the footprint of the zone which which was essentially a ledge on a hillside. Retaining shrubbery and planting, where possible and replanting where necessary.

Waterbeach contacted ESP PLAY to design an engaging bespoke FreeFlow package with safety surfacing for their KS1 & KS2 children to use during play times and lunch times.

ESP PLAY met with the Headteacher and the Gorse Academies Trust estates team to discuss how to develop the outdoor playground / outdoor provision within early years. The school and the trust identified a need to invest in the existing early years playground to improve the outdoor learning experience and to meet those critical early learning goals required to prepare the children for the national curriculum.

Kings Hedges Primary school is based in the county of Cambridgeshire. It is one of the largest primary schools in Cambridgeshire. The school enquired about removing some of their old equipment and replacing their flooring with new purple wetpour.

Hawkhurst Church of England Primary School is a lovely village primary school for 4-11 year olds located in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. The Headteacher, Jodie, contacted us as she was looking to develop the EYFS area, particularly the surfacing which was mostly tarmac with some random cuts of artificial grass that were causing trip hazards.

Porthleven School is 1 of 16 Schools in the Crofty Multi Academy Trust and is located in Helston, Cornwall for children aged 3-11.Duncan (executive head) was seeking advise on how best to uplift their EYFS space. Whilst the area was well presented and exhbited natural areas for zoning, opportunities for play and learning were restricted to non-fixed resource.

Primrose Hill Primary got in touch with ESP Play via the website by submitting a general enquiry, one of our customer care team members then contacted the school to arrange for our representatives to visit the school and discuss the project in more depth.

Newtown school is a warm, safe environment, where all children are encouraged to be the best they can be. Their children are at the heart of every decision they make. They want to provide the best education for their children, making learning fun and meaningful, whilst developing their knowledge and skills.

Jade, the School Business Manager, attended the LASBM conference back in 2019 where she met our North West Consultant. She explained that the school had a large field area that they wanted to develop over phases and in particular they wanted to add some climbing equipment onto the banking area to be used by their KS1 pupils.

Thomasson Memorial is a day school for deaf children aged from 2 – 16, it provides a caring, secure and supportive environment in which all children are respected and encouraged to develop to their full potential.

Keeley, the School Business Manager at James Brindley Community Primary School called ESP Play after seeing the equipment we had previously installed at St Paul’s C of E Primary in Worsley, Manchester.

The school had an area of natural grass that had been worn away due to the footfall from the students, as a result the area was muddy and the students were bringing the mud into the school with them after break and lunchtimes.

To enhance a wooded area in the EYFS school grounds with the objective of making the space accessible all year round. This zone accounts for 2/3rds of the play zone and as such was exposed to heavy footfall

The existing equipment had been condemned and removed, leaving a redundant play space which was laid to loose fill rubber crumb. The crumb was regularly having to be inspected and replenished so a zero-maintenance surface solution was sought by the client.

Dovers Green School which is one of six schools in the Greensand Multi Academy Trust is a three-form entry infant school located in Reigate, Surrey. In early 2022 the school contacted us for assistance with a funding bid they were putting into the Council.

Dunraven School (part of Dunraven Educational Trust) Is an all through school for 4-18 year olds and are one of very few schools to hold Platinum Artsmark Status. They have an on-going journey to achieve ‘Excellence for All’. Their next challenge is to ensure that Dunraven raises these high standards as they aim to become an ‘outstanding’ school.

Their mission is to "Shape the Future of Young Minds." They want to give the children the academic and interpersonal skills they need to succeed in life. The school have completed numerous upgrades and the outdoor space was just one of them.

Radley Church of England Primary School is a happy, vibrant and exciting place to learn, where the children make them proud of their responsible, positive and caring attitudes every day.

Windrush Primary school based in Oxfordshire contacted ESP PLAY because their EYFS area needed some shade and shelter from all weathers.

The multi academy trust got in contact with ESP and asked if we could quote for a larger trim trail project and new safety surface. The ESP team designed a bespoke trail that targeted the children’s upper body, lower body and core strength.

Biggleswade Academy based in Hertfordshire is an independent, state-funded Academy providing truly comprehensive education and wraparound care for children aged 2-13.

Higham on the Hill CE Primary part of Rise Multi Academy Trust originally reached out to ESP following on from an independent playground inspection carried out on their existing trim trail. It had failed on numerous counts, resulting in the structures being condemned.

The school wanted to brighten up the Year 1 Playground. The area had a section of wetpour that was deteriorating so the school wanted to remove this and resurface the space with artificial grass.

Broadoak Primary School was originally two separate schools. The Junior school opened in June 1970 and the Infant school in April 1972. Their aim is to provide all children with meaningful and engaging learning experiences that will prepare them for life in the 21st century.

Blackmoor Park Junior School is a vibrant, inclusive school where they are committed to providing a welcoming, safe and stimulating environment in which they can nurture the achievements of every child.

Scraptoft Day Nursery which is situated in impressive grounds presented very little structured play and opportunity for children to utilise the space all year round.

Little Gaddesden CofE Primary School is a small rural primary school. They were looking to update their tired playground equipment and develop new areas of interest for the children. As they are in a rural setting, any equipment needed to be sympathetic to their environment and surroundings.

The schools existing EYFS area was dull and unorganised with lots of none fixed resources. They had a 30k budget which had a cut-off date to be spent. The area was quite small and lacked structure.

Sunnyside Spencer Academy is another school in the Spencer Academy Trust. The school had an existing field that was often utilised for forest school activities but they wanted to enhance this and create a more functional space.

Barlby Primary School wanted an all weather sports pitch installed onto their existing concrete MUGA. The school is an outstanding, happy place where all of the children and adults aim to succeed.

Westglade Primary School wanted to refresh and enhance their existing KS2 playground with surfacing and seating options that would bring the area to life.

Provost Williams C of E Primary School were looking to create an area that would facilitate gross/fine motor skills, core strength, upper body and grip strength as well as hanging and climbing.

The existing playground at Hilton Primary School was worn down from years of play and wanted to add some new and exciting zones to their reception area.

Stoke Prior First School approached ESP to redesign an area of their existing playground that was out of use due to safety reasons. They wanted a calming and reflective zone that could be used for learning as well as a breaktime space outside of the classroom.

The nursery engaged with ESP to discuss enduring surface solutions which would be suitable for toddlers and withstand the rigours of daily use of up to 60 children. The client also required a structure that would enhance on site provision for physical development.

The client originally sought advice on maintenance and repairs to their existing equipment and wetpour surfacing. It was clear on inspection of the site, this would not be economically viable.

The Church of England day School opened its doors in January 1860 with 100 children on the roll, one Master and two Pupil Teachers.

Monkston Primary school based in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire had their Early Years Playground redeveloped by ESP Play.

The school were looking to replace their existing equipment located on the school field with a range of trim trail items that would encourage upper body development for the reception children age 4/5.

The Alan Shearer Centre is a highly specialist, respite, residential and social facility for people with complex disabilities and acute sensory impairments. Situated in its own grounds on the outskirts of Newcastle, the Alan Shearer Centre comprises three specialist facilities.

This new playground is the latest addition made to the centre which will enable children and families from the community to access outstanding playground facilities. ESP PLAY worked closely with the centre to create an inclusive playground for children aged from 2 to 18 years old.

At Waddington All Saints Academy their aim is to provide a learning environment and experience that enables children to thrive and develop as learners and leaders.

The school are delighted with their installation and the manner in which the works have been carried out. From contact through to completion, the process has been straightforward and communication has been very thorough throughout the design and build process. Ed took on board our requirements, underrstood the site limitations and specified a solution that best meets the needs of the children for our budget.

This is an SEN school for children and young people who have complex needs, emotional and behavioural difficulties or who have been removed from mainstream school.

Westfield House school based in Kings Lynn in the county of Norfolk have worked with ESP for a few years and have always been a fantastic returning customer. They initially contacted ESP to see if we could install an outdoor pitch that caters for every child to be able to use the area all year round and in all weathers.

Stephen Hawking school, London originally contacted ESP Play back in February 2019 with an ambitious intention to transform their outdoor play areas. The playgrounds contained endless accessibility and design flaws which made using the playground a risk assessment nightmare for staff. The school had a very clear vision with independent learning and sensory experience at the core.

A key element of the school’s vision is to ensure that all equipment is high quality, accessible, fit for purpose and reflects actual life needs and the playground is no exception. They also encourage risk taking and develop problem solving skills both inside and outside the classroom.

Skyswood Primary School required a new challenging climbing unit to enhance physical development and an outdoor classroom to improve the existing KS1 area. The current area was a huge field, with limited playground space which was causing issues throughout most of the year.

Queensmead House School, part of the Witherslack Group, is a co-educational, independent specialist day school, providing high quality education. Herne C of E Infant School are an existing ESP customer completing three different projects. ESP were approached to enhance their existing Reception and Nursery provisions. The school wanted the areas to be natural looking, have lots of opportunity for physical development and to provide progressive play between the two age groups.

As the lead school in the Learning Partnership Trust, Hatfield Heath is situated in a leafy setting on the Essex, Hertfordshire border. The site has an abundance of green space.

At Elizabeth Selby Infant School, the existing EYFS provision was looking out of date and no longer provided the provision needed to challenge their children. Wharton Primary School contacted ESP Play back in September 2021 via the website enquiry form because they needed some climbing equipment in their Early Years outdoor area.

Charles Warren Primary Academy based in Milton Keynes called upon ESP Play to take a look at their old EYFS playground.

Since opening as an Academy, West Town Primary has restructured its teaching team to provide smaller class sizes for many of our children, which enables a greater amount of quality first teaching to take place.

The children at Walsham-le-Willows Primary School now have an amazing outdoor classroom where they can meet with their friends at play times and enjoy an undercover seating area which also includes a whiteboard for the children to draw and write on, whether this is just for fun, games or even a lesson can be delivered within the outdoor shelter.

Loughton Manor Primary School in Milton Keynes contacted ESP Play and asked if we could create a bespoke performance stage for their children in KS1 & KS2.

The existing area was looking tired with equipment that had been in for over 25 years. The school was keen to remove the old equipment and replace it with something new and exciting.

The school had an area of old climbing equipment in KS1 that had been condemned and needed removing. They wanted to replace the old equipment with similar items because they were popular among the children.

The nursery wanted to add a piece of climbing equipment into their outdoor area and it had to be suitable for children aged between 2 and 4 years old. They wanted a play tower because they felt it most suited their aim which is to allow the children to learn through free-flowing play.

Heasandford Primary School, Burnley first contacted ESP Play in January 2019, they had a clear vision of what they wanted to achieve but needed some help to develop the EYFS outdoor space.

Bolton Parish C of E Primary School contacted ESP Play to transform an area of soil at the new site into an exciting extension of the early year’s classroom.

ESP PLAY work very closely with LEAD Academy Trust for the development of all of their school playgrounds. This new playground in Sheffield at Rainbow Forge Academy has to be one of the best yet. The school had a big issue in that the Nursery and Reception playground was on a huge slope. This really impacted in the quality of the outdoor provision and learning experience

ESP Play were invited by Oakley Cross Primary School to attend a meeting relating to an exciting development and investment into their EYFS outdoor play area.

ESP PLAY were approached by Sacred Heart Catholic Primary school in March 2021 to provide advice on how to create a new outdoor EYFS play area for their pupils. Sacred Heart is a Catholic school is located in Leeds and is part of the St Gregory the Great Catholic Academy Trust.

Stephen Hawking school, London originally contacted ESP Play back in February 2019 with an ambitious intention to transform their outdoor play areas. The playgrounds contained endless accessibility and design flaws which made using the playground a risk assessment nightmare for staff. The school had a very clear vision with independent learning and sensory experience at the core.

ESP Play Were chosen by Wickhambrook academy to carry out a playground development within their early years outdoor play area.

Little Digmoor Primary School, Skelmersdale contacted ESP Play to help them transform a tired empty playground into an exciting outdoor area that would encourage and increase the activity levels throughout the school day using the PE and Sports Premium funding.

MUGA - KS1 and KS2 Play Area

ESP were invited into Seven Hills Primary School in Morley, Leeds to provide a design, specification and pricing for a new Multi Use Games area. The school wanted this to be installed within their school playground to provide high quality opportunities to play Football, Basketball and for general PE lessons.

Armfield Academy, Blackpool contacted ESP Play to create an outdoor area that would help with the development of the children’s gross motor skills, develop team building skills and improve movement.

In 2020, the Pontefract Academies Trust decided to make a significant investment within the outdoor provision for EYFS at The Rookeries School. This was to help cater for more children as the school expanded to a one and half form entry.

During the summer of 2019, we were commissioned by Phoenix Beckfoot School in Keighley to transform their outdoor spaces into a fun, challenging and educational environments for their pupils. This was a complete transformation over a 6 week period.

A case study of Play Areas for EYFS, KS1 and KS2

During the summer of 2016 we transformed a once run-down and drab play area into an exciting and vibrant place for play and learning. The transformation has turned the space into a fun area where children can enjoy their break time, allowing them to return to the classroom more focussed and ready to learn.

Gorton Primary School wanted to create an outdoor area that matched the standard and ambition of the school buildings. It aimed to provide, from the outset, a safe, inclusive outdoor space that provided a wide range of opportunities for play, learning and sports and which consisted of high standard equipment that would endure.

This outstanding playground at Long Lee Primary School now provides an outdoor provision that is set up and ready to use every day. It includes elements of our Wild Wood equipment, various playground surfacing, including block paving and artificial grass to give it an evergreen look all year round.

An Open Ended Play Area for the Development of Key Gross and Fine Motor Skills

The playground at Warren Primary School has been transformed into a fantastic little learning oasis. We removed old Wetpour surfacing and replaced it with artificial grass and installed new seating areas. In addition, we included various climbing equipment and den and mark making areas too.

A Play Tower that is Fun, Exciting and Challenging for Children aged 3-5 year old. At Ivy Road Primary School, we transformed an unused area of grass at the school into a challenging bespoke play tower. It has been designed to challenge key skills, such as grip, balance, crawling and role-play.

At Rainbow Forge Primary School, we installed this challenging and exciting FreeFlow trim trail package, with bonded rubber mulch safety surfacing and some additional playground markings to brighten up a bland tarmac playground. We had to meet the needs of both Key Stage 1 and 2 children, which our unique modular design does really well.

We replaced a dated Wetpour surfacing at Collingwood Primary School with an artificial grass surfacing and a challenging FreeFlow package, which was designed to challenge the needs of all children at the school. Our modular, unique trim trail was the perfect solution, allowing a large number of children to play, without frustrating queues forming.

A Stunning EYFS Outdoor Provision

The areas at Glapton Academy was predominantly grassed and relied on teachers setting up equipment and putting it away on a daily basis. We have transformed this area to create block-paving roadway, playground shelters and other role-play activities and various textured surfacing.

The schools EYFS team had some very specific ideas and shared a wish list of needs. The school really liked a lot of the standard EYFS products ESP have available such as the Construction Zone, the Block Paving Roadway, Wild Wood and the Magnetic Water Wall.

At Thurlstone Primary, it was really important that the school got this right and made the impact they required. The Headteacher also emphasised she needed a reliable contractor that she could trust to do a high quality and long lasting project.

We were invited into Waverley Primary School in Newcastle to discuss a range of playground surfacing requirements. The existing Wetpour surface covered a huge area and had become very slippy and costly to maintain.
