The CPD training that ESP delivers is a fantastic way to up-skill staff

Department for Education Vision for the Primary PE and Sport Premium
“ALL pupils leaving primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.”

It is expected that schools will see an improvement against the following 5 key indicators:

1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles.

Our multiskills zone will provide an easily accessed resource for daily physical activities and can be child led. Our playground buddies training award ensures practical examples plus a skills card template to encourage creativity and autonomy.

2. The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement.
Not only will the the multiskills zone be used to develop a child’s physical literacy but self-confidence, understanding of teamwork and leadership skills. The benefits of physical exercise, especially aerobic exercise, have positive effects on brain function on multiple fronts.
3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
Our afPE accredited awards are an extremely cost effective way of upskilling ALL staff and adults involved in the delivery and supervision of physical activities and PE.
4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.
The multiskills approach is non sports specific which means that the skills developed on the Multiskills zone are transferrable across ALL sports. It doesn’t get any broader when opening the door to new sports experiences.
5. Increased participation in competitive sport.
Our new Multiskills festival for schools format means that every single child across both key stages can participate in a competition event. Upload your scores to our website and you’ve just taken part in a national competition without leaving school.
An ESP multiskills zone package inc Level 1 training for staff & Playground Buddies plus easy to run multiskills festival resource will ensure improvement in all 5 key indicators.
PLUS Can be used to demonstrate evidence based actions around new “healthy schools rating scheme” starting Sept 17 including 30mins daily physical activity as part of the governments Childhood Obesity Strategy – August 2016

Neil Claxton - Head of CPD

As a specialist PE practitioner I have been helping primary schools raise standards of PE for the last 16 years. I have worked with School Sport Partnerships in the North West of England delivering competitions, improving levels of participation and inclusion. Prior to this, my background was in football coaching where I worked for 5 years at Burnley FC as a Community Coach. Within this role I delivered coaching sessions in many schools across the North West and also had the pleasure to work outside of the UK in Cyprus, Germany and Uganda.

I first started working with ESP Play five years ago when they installed a Multi-skills Zone at my primary school. I instantly recognised the value and the positive impact of the Multi-skills Zone. The support of the Nationally Accredited CPD enabled me as a teacher to utilise the zone within curriculum delivery but also across numerous wider school activities such as play times, sports clubs, games and skill development. In addition our Yr6 pupils were trained to deliver as Playground Buddies.

The CPD training that ESP delivers is a fantastic way to up skill staff as well as being an effective sustainable way of using the Sports Premium funding.

As a passionate PE practitioner working in schools, I am delighted to be appointed by ESP as their Head of CPD & Education. The opportunity to lead on the national delivery of high quality CPD presents a real challenge that I could not turn down. I look forward to supporting schools and their staff in providing strategies to increase sustained participation in high quality physical activity for every child.
