School: St Bonaventures Catholic Primary
Location: Bristol
Project Brief.
This new playground in Bristol is already making a difference to the pupils at St Bonaventures Catholic Primary School.
The challenges presented by this project was evident immediately upon arrival to site. The school had resourcefully created their outdoor play experiences using a natural, reflective forest schools setting, but it had fallen into a state of decay, resulting in the area being inaccessible unsafe and unusable.
The client was keen extend the footprint of the zone which which was essentially a ledge on a hillside. Retaining shrubbery and planting, where possible and replanting where necessary. The school had previously constructed a pond which was leaking and overgrown. It was also inaccessible, and a principal objective was to reinstate this to encourage habitats. Beyond that, the school requested a area of hard landscaping to afford opportunity for barbecues / firepits and artificial grass so the area was accessible year round.
Outcome.
Here at ESP PLAY, we welcome all playground project enquiries, and this project really does evidence just that.
St Bonaventure’s does represent a departure from what would be considered our core business. The majority of this works programme comprised of hard/ soft landscaping and the sympathetic execution of this has resulted in successful completion of the project.
The pupils now have access to a fully enhanced and flexible outdoor learning resource which moving forward will require no upkeep or ongoing maintenance.
