The school had ambitions plans to replace an existing Wetpour surface, which covered their whole playground with a new long term surface.

We were invited into Waverley Primary School in Newcastle to discuss a range of playground surfacing requirements. The existing Wetpour surface covered huge area and had become very slippy and costly to maintain. Wetpour shouldn’t really be used on such large areas due to the reasons the school have experienced and because of the cost of the surface. We recommend that Wetpour should only really be used as a playground safety surface under climbing equipment.

Whilst looking this area, we were also asked to look at an existing trim trail area. The trim trail was not being used as the surface underneath it was a very worn grassed space that had become very muddy. In winter months, the trim was not used.  In addition to this, there were numerous trees roots and imperfections in the surface causing many trip hazards.

Our design proposal for the trim trail area saw the introduction of two surfaces.  A combination of Rubber Mulch and Artificial Grass was cleverly designed to bring the trim trail back to life and extend the use of the climbing equipment into the winter months by providing all year round access.

The school are delighted with the result and have since recommended ESP to schools in their area.
