Glapton Academy believe that it is important that each child is given the opportunity to develop his/her full potential and they are continuously striving to enable their children to succeed and to provide an education of the highest quality. This is to enable each child to be their very best when they leave in Year 6 and discover their interests and abilities in the wider curriculum and upholding core British Values.

The outdoor area in EYFS was identified in their school improvement plan as a key area to develop. The area was predominantly a grassed space with lots of portable outdoor play equipment. The area was heavily dependent of teachers setting up activities as the equipment needed to be set up and put away on a daily basis. The Academy wanted a design that would provide and open ended, but permanent facility that the children could development their early learning goals and enhance the outdoor learning experience.

The finished play area looks stunning. The centrepiece of the area includes a block-paving roadway with textures integrated to provide sensory experiences. A large octagonal shelter in the middle of the roadway provides an area of shade from sun and an ideal location to carry out role-play activities. A range of brand new, all year round surfacing has been installed including Artificial Grass, Wetpour and Bonded Rubber Mulch. Other areas include a Construction Zone, Mud Kitchen, Play Hut and a large sand area.

The Academy is delighted with the completed installation. The works were completed within three weeks and was installed in term time, allowing the children to witness the construction of the new play area take place.
