Music to Our Ears

This week the ESP Design Team were delighted to find their work featured in the Weston, Worle & Somerset Mercury. The playground design for Locking Primary School in North Somerset featured our popular Music Panels and according to Headteacher Jo Jones “they’ve been a great hit”.

Music Panels are a brilliant addition to any playground and provide the perfect place for children to be creative and make as much noise as they want! A great outlet for self-expression, the panels encourage children to experiment with sound and composition and to interact with their classmates to produce their own musical ensembles.

All our products are specifically designed to emphasise the importance of learning through play and our Music Panels are no exception. With scores of research published about the importance of music in child development, it is a fantastic step towards introducing a strong music based outdoor curriculum into any school.

Various pieces of research have discovered several key areas that a strong music curriculum assists children with. It aids the development of speech, enhances social skills and intellectual development, does wonders for a childs self-expression and confidence and even helps them to learn maths. When children learn rhythm, they are learning ratios, fractions and proportions, says Professor Gordon Shaw from the University of California. The benefits really are overwhelming.

With so much great feedback being received about our Music Panels, we sent Designer, Simon, out to Copp C of E Primary School to witness first hand just how popular they are. The children loved the Music Panels and the Headteacher was thrilled with the overall design of the new play area. Seeing your work brought to life is a fantastic feeling and makes every second of hard work put into a design completely worth it.
